I heard that when I showed the finger-shaped bruises around my neck. What had I done? I had opened the door before he knocked because I heard him coming up the steps. It was devastating to be blamed and abandoned. I went into hiding then fled the province. He found mea year later, thousands of miles away.

@TheAstroChuck Thank you. He was my fiance. He's long out of my life. Male violence and victim blaming first entered my life when I was only two. I am glad laws make it easier for police to intervene now although there are still terrible tragedies. A woman from work was killed by an abusive boyfriend only a few years ago. We need more men like you and Patrick Stewart who are willing to speak out against intimate violence.
I have no heroes. Like Bunny Johnson said when Bob Marley passed... I keep no altars to fallen Generals. Works for alive captains too.
