The US English language adds and drops words every year. This is not new. Our language, just like every other language is constantly changing. It is a living language as supposed to a dead one like ancient Latin.

As soon as "d'oh" was added to the OED I knew all bets were off. Anything can mean anything else. It's like we're reenacting the Tower of Babel or something.

As an old English teacher and enjoyer of words, I welcome additions. I will say, I believe we are due to change the names of the time periods of the English language. We have old English, Middle English, which I can read with a 40 word cheat sheet, and modern English that began in the 1500's. How many kids, people can read Shakespeare without a guide anymore? And yes, I can, and love it, but when teaching I would have to explain word meanings from his time.
