Ricky Gervais is witty and clever, I think he could perhaps be the British equivalent of George Carlin

Video is the one where he reads the Bible, I found it by searching "Gervais reads Genesis" or "reads the Bible" in case you don't trust my link (or if it doesn't work).
He's wonderfully irreverent in every way, not only with regard to religion. His treatment of other celebrities and Hollywood in general when he hosted the Golden Globes was hysterical and he bordered on outright contempt for the whole spectacle. Hilarious!
