Are You a Voter? Or are you in the same mind set as being connected to a certain Religion likewise being political coincides with being affiliated with a certain belief that influences how you cast your decision if at all.
I’m Canadian and permanent resident in America. I have voted in every Canadian election since I was 18 and generally for the Liberal Party. When I become an American, I will most certainly vote here as well. It is our duty. I am as involved as I can be given my status at the community level with the Democratic Party and especially Supporting Beto. I’m also raising two teenage Democrats of the future.
I would crawl naked over broken bottles and hot coals to vote. I am not deluded. I know politics is a dirty business, but I also know that which party and which pols are in power has a profound effect on many aspects of our daily lives, the economy, and sending our young people off to war.
I really like your healthy perspective.
I always vote, I always vote for a Democrat, and when given a choice of Democrats, I always vote for the female(s).
I vote in every election I'm eligible to vote in. (Local elections, primaries etc.) I always do my research and I always vote progressive when possible. By American standards I would be considered extreme left but by most of the developed world my views are pretty common place. I find that many atheists share my political views and I am always surprised to me a conservative atheist because that makes no sense to me.
Makes no sense to me either, but then the Log Cabin Republicans seems crazy. Go figure...
Yep. You got me. I vote center left. This means Obama, Hillary, Biden. Not up for negotiation.
What did you not like about Bernie Sanders.
@Nevermind345 I would have voted for him had he been the nominee. But I try to avoid extremes- in either direction.
Not certain of your question, but yes I vote. I vote against rampant anti-science, corruption, government sponsored religion, raging militarism, oligarchies(?), theocracies, etc.
There's an old Chinese curse that says; "May you live in interesting times", and IMHO we're certainly living in interesting times these days.
Anyway, yes please VOTE! You're not allowed to bitch about the guv'ment if you don't..
Ronnie, your from Kentucky which is home to America's Greatest Enemy to Democracy who leads the GOP. I will not ask if you voted for him or if you believe in what he stands for, but I would like to know if you think he truly give a Shite about you as far as Health Care, Minimum Wage, and your retirement.as far as SS and Medicare. From your age I believe you may also be a Veteran which is another thing I am not sure of but the GOP is a staunch believer in denying benefits to Americans who served their country. Are you aware of the suicide rates for Veterans from PTSD. And do you love your neighbor which is not religious but purely psychologically a given trait that we are all born with.
I have always voted and will continue to do so. The 'mercan political system is for the privileged and wealthy and has also morphed into for the religious. Unfortunately, my vote is usually against a politician (or for the lesser of two evils). Obama was the first candidate that I voted for the candidate because I thought he would make a difference but he turned out to be just another war criminal and I did not vote for him the second time. I strive to vote for candidates who support "we the people". In my opinion and my political philosophy, the GOP does NOT care for "we the people" in any way, shape, form or fashion. For what it is worth.
What is your take on the Military Industrial Complex from which these Senators make Millions in Stock and Lobbyist who pad their Campaign Purses This was Eisenhower's defining moment which is totally void to middle class America and continued thru the Korean, Viet Nam, and Middle Eastern Crisis. Dubya and Dickey Bird made Billions for Halliburton, Black Water as did Lyndon making all the Air Fields and Construction Sites through Brown and Root. I still trying to figure out what Barrack Made during his 8 years in Office.
@Nevermind345 That does not sound like "we the people " to me.
I have voted in every presidential election since I turned 18. I've never voted for a Republican president. I've voted for a few Republicans in local races but only because I knew more about them personally. The sad part is, a lot of the time the only person running for a local office is a Republican and they run unopposed. I quit voting for any Republican in the last election. If there's only a Republican on the ballot, I leave it blank.
I vote, I also research who I'm voting for.
How much is research and how much is just listening to about 15 min. of Political BS to figure out that this 'Same Shi@ different Flies' Research can be as dangerous as watching TV or listening to the radio. Reading is my most valuable source of information.
@Nevermind345 I don't consider TV and radio research.
Your post is incoherent. I have no idea of what you are trying to say.
If you have a Religious Affiliation for starters. Do you Vote and what influences your choice of Candidates i.e. Religious Affiliation, Sexual Orientation or Discrimination, Race, Political News Reports, Newscasters, Books,
I would also hope that you would read the posts below which I found very informative and brought other thoughts of reflection concerning our current Political Embarrassment.
@Nevermind345 I am an atheist, so have no religious affiliation. I vote for candidates based on their character, intelligence, policy ideas, and ability to get things done that need doing. I occasionally vote for ethical Republicans, but there are damned few of them around.
I am definitely a voter, but I am not affiliated with any political party. I look at a politician's positions on the issues and vote according to their integrity and what they claim they'll do if elected.
I always vote anti-incumbency, don't care who, we just shouldn't have career politicians.
Interesting point
@creative51 you think way too highly of government. What does, "best represent you" even mean? And why assume that no one else can do a good job?
@Fibonacci1618 This leads me to believe that you have or had been scammed, hoodwinked, enamored by the Media Hype and those associated. Pre Tel.
I always vote. My foremothers were beaten, force fed, arrested, put Into prison, put into insane asylums, marched, fought and died for my right to vote. I won't betray what they went through to sit on my ass, then bitch about the outcome. I am a democrat, liberal and a daughter, wife of, and mother to union members. I was a union member too. We are working class people. Some of us are educated, some are not. I have voted for non dems, for instance Susan Collins, but I have learned that generally, republicans usually are not for the working people. This year I will vote democrat.
since i have never been religious i vote for the candidate who seems to share my values, which are not religious but which might have nothing to do with NOT being religious any more than they have to do with being religious. however, if a candidate even hints at busting up the separation of church and state, they've lost me.
therefore i always vote democratic. the republicans are intent upon destroying that separation.
that's not the only reason, of course. but i assure you it's not the name of the party that matters. it's just that all the candidates i like inevitably turn out to be democratic -- so should i ignore that and claim not to favor one party over another, when i clearly do?
meanwhile, we do not have a parliamentary system. our government doesn't make coalitions. voting third party before a third party has become viable in lesser positions (start with the school board, or city council) just hands victory to the republicans. if you like republicans, go ahead and vote third party. that'll divide the liberal vote and the republicans will win, and when they win, winner takes ALL. there is no compromise there. you can deny it all you want, you can talk about third parties, you can say (incorrectly, but you can say it, while we're still a relatively free country) that both major parties are alike (but if you check congress.gov you'll see that this isn't remotely true), but if you vote third party, in today's america, you are voting republican.

Interesting point
We need rank choice voting so that people can vote for the person they want without fear of splitting the vote.
@creative51 i said nothing about default voting for democrats, and there is nothing hypocritical about voting to get the result you want and avoid the result you don't want. voting for someone who believes as you do is not necessarily useful if the person cannot DO what s/he believes in due to not being elected. those ARE my beliefs, and calling me hypocritical for understanding how the political system works is rather rude, as well as inaccurate. in addition, even lousy democratic candidates allow progressives, by giving them the majority, power to do progressive things. i believe in letting a smaller party grow. you don't let it grow by voting for it for higher office when it hasn't proven itself yet in lower office, and i mentioned that already. if you want to vote your beliefs, you have to figure out what your beliefs are. if you believe in a government that works, you vote in a way that will make the government work. it's not about whether an individual mirrors you more exactly than another individual. it's what that individual would do in office, which is nothing at all if that individual doesn't achieve office, and also what the body of government can achieve as a body. you're entitled to disagree with me about what is a better tactic for getting good people in office, but your disagreement doesn't justify telling me i am a hypocrite, which i am not, and that i really have no beliefs, which is completely and egregiously untrue.

@creative51 people with your thinking (not mine) have allowed trump to become president. and calling names gets you blocked, not believed. if you don't like being outed as a crank, don't call sincere people hypocrites. you likely won't see this, but others will, and they will see that you are willing to make assumptions and judge someone unfairly based on your not having the mental capacity to understand what they actually said. i don't care that you disagree with me. i care that you're pugnacious and ignorant. goodbye.'

@genessa Forgot to Include 'Totally Dysfunctional Government' and all the abettors to the crimes being committed in front of America, the World for which being ridiculed is not a matter of concern for the Congress, Senate or the Supreme Court.
I've voted in every election since '82, and will continue to do so. Everyone should vote.
I'm a voter. I vote.
My attitude toward voting is that if you don't vote, you have no right
to bitch if you don't like how things are going.
I started off as a republican when I first was eligible to vote. Reagan and
the republicans turned me into an Independent. I stayed a registered ( I )
for over 30 years. I recently changed my registration back to republican because
I want to do what I can to change the party from within. They've gone off the rails
and are nothing like the GOP of Eisenhower, when their platform actually made sense. I've been repeatedly told that I'm beating my head against the wall, and that they will never change. That the best we can hope for is that they will implode and go the way of the Whigs. That may all be true, but I at least have to try. If I don't make the effort, I have no right to complain.
