First personal post. Does anyone have any movies that they watch to comfort themselves during difficult times? I do. And I can't really explain why they comfort me. Mine are The 13th Warrior and White Chicks. White Chicks is an utterly ridiculous comedy, but the 13th Warrior is just a drama where Antonio Bandares plays an Arab and fights with Vikings against cannibals. Nonetheless, these two movies never fail to elevate my spirits when I am down. Anyone else have these kind of films?
Young Frankenstein is my go-to silliness ! Also LOVE Dr. Strangelove !
I like watching Kelly's Heroes. Similar to what you like, I guess everyone wants to be a hero.
Usually anything that will make laugh really hard.
The Mentalist..any episode, but my favorite is the one when they solved a severed hand murder in Vegas, on the state line. I watched that episode many times.
I also love the Big Bang Theory..most episodes, but the Christmas gift to Sheldon Cooper is my favorite.
Two and a Half Men..most of the episodes have me choking with laughter.
day for night.
for music: the grateful dead's live dead album, first three sides.
for tv: murphy brown, at the moment.

The Warriors used to be it, now The 5th Element as well. No idea why.
Warriors come out and play!
I LOVE the 5th Element. I can't watch it too many times.
Priest Vito Cornelius: You're a monster, Zorg.
Zorg: I know.
@birdingnut I can still laugh out loud at parts after so so many times seeing it.
I haven't really thought about this before but I guess I don't have a specific movie that I watch during difficult times. I do find myself gravitating back to some movies over and over again and they give me a good feeling overall, so maybe I crave them like comfort food but subconsciously
Depending on the nature of the crisis I'm experiencing, my comfort movie can serve different purposes: For catharsis (a.k.a., a good cry), several Pixar features come to mind or, more recently, Moonlight or Manchester by the Sea. If I need to laugh and laugh hard, my go-to is There's Something About Mary (rom-com as theater of cruelty, Ben Stiller as human pin-cushion). For inspiration, give me a quest-for-truth journalism pic such as All the President's Men or Spotlight.
Iron Sky makes me laugh and see the preposterousness of life: moon Nazis and President Palin.
13th warrior is from a decent Crichton novel.
I knew it was from Eaters of the Dead, never read it, but probably should. Still don't know why I latched onto that movie the way I have.
