Never-the-less , a lot of people were put through torture and trials and even murdered , because someone decided to create , "proof ," that showed they were indeed witches . Worked a bit like Hitler deciding that the reason for the problems Germany was having , was due to the Jews , or westward expansion was being stymied due to the Indians .
