Science and training gives us the ability to treat people. Not every condition is curable. I have yet to see prayers improve the outcome of a patients condition in 25 years of nursing. I suppose it might help the family feel like they’re doing something.. just smoke and mirrors.

Formal Scientific studies have been done on this. If the sick person doesn't know about prayers it doesn't do anything. I the sick person knows, prayers hurt, presumably because they feel sicker.

Neither. Doctors mask symptoms with drugs to keep people coming back. Guaranteed clientele. Prayers don't do shite.

Have been a non prayorist for fifty odd years and wondered which idiot would choose a feckin prayer over cancer or MS ...thought I did not believe in god above ..turns out he does not believe in me or anyone ever..ffs does this shit never end....how can people believe in this shit and still breath...

Doctors

Doctors prescribe, nurses heal, prayer's just useless ritual.

If prayer actually worked there wouldn't be a need for doctors or medicine. People prayed for centuries and used herbal medicine and died anyway.

Neither. Our bodies heal themselves. Doctors can sometimes assist in the process. A positive mental attitude is very helpful IMO.

@TheAstroChuck Good points. Maybe those big pharmaceutical companies need to be sued out of existence if they are doing more harm than good.

The Catholic church actually conducted a scientific study on the effectiveness of prayer. They used a large sample size of patients recovering from a similar surgery. End conclusion was those who were prayed for and knew they were prayed for recovered the worst, those who were not prayed for recovered the best. the difference in recovery rates were within the margin of error so prayer was demonstrated as not effective.

Just never thought amen was better than morphine...lol

@Dragoria The Placebo effect is real but for actual recover (not just feel good) the study demonstrated recover is not dependent on knowing you were being prayed for. . . .

@NoMagicCookie I was in hospital many years ago with kidney stones and got a visit from a priest walking the wards and he said he would pray for me...Well 2 days later the kidney stones came out naturally, very painfully...was it prayer or just natural function that expelled them....lol...to be honest 2 doctors examined me and one said lets wait to see if they come out on their own violation and the other one said we should do an exploratory ...I listened more to the first doctor...lol

@Dragoria You chose - - - -Wisely.

I remember reading that.

@Dragoria I tried to pass kidney stones in a hospital for 72 hours. I gave up after that and had the dr take them. I've given birth and I've passed kidney stones. Kidney stones were worse.

do you really not know?

so many people want prayers when someone is taken to hospital and was always thinking those inefficient doctor peoples cannot match the power of prayer...though always wanted to know... is it magic or the skill of someone who understands more about the human body than someone clasping their hands and getting down on their knees ....

@Dragoria it's just superstition.
