Mother of insects at it again; it's been a while...

But a stink bug watched over my hairspray while a spider made sure I had a safe shower today, lol!

(I'm aware that a spider is an arachnid)

This just happened moments ago. Protip- if you don't want your nose raped do not pour boiling water over a stink bug in your house. Don't do it.

@pepperjones yes I can't even describe it and it was stuck in my nose for a few minutes & permeated my kitchen. ? I'd captured it in a narrow vase & had been boiling water so decided to off it quickly instead of smashing it outdoors (they can fly off).

I have a company come out to stray to keep the bees and spiders at bay. Otherwise my house get webs spun all over that I have to constantly knock down. (And I have hornets, yellow jackets and wasps!) So I am pretty bug free unless I go out hiking.

I heard on the radio yesterday that it is the time of year for the stink bugs to start making their way inside. I don't have much here... But they are think in some other nearby places.

Spiders are everywhere. They’re one of the most widely distributed arthropods.

I have a few spiders living in my house. Found they keep other bugs at bay.

My downstairs house mate was bitten by a wheel bug this past weekend.

I didn't even know they bit as I have often handled them.

It is apparently one of the worst, painful bites ever.

I've handled my last goofy looking wheel bug aka assassin bug

Here ya go.

Pet it!

@BufftonBeotch Holy shit! Where do you live? Ack ack ack!

@pashaonenine Ive handled them for years. Had no idea they bit.

I have a cousin that handles coral snakes so this may be a weird gene.

Wheel bugs(reduviidae) carry Chagas. I would not touch those with a 10 ft pole.
Your friend should get checked out.

@Qualia Oh...I won't be playing with one ever again.

@BufftonBeotch when i was visiting my mom in the Texas hill country one spring a nymph had fallen on my shoulder (she's surrounded by cedar trees) . We were in the kitchen when she swatted it off me & then stomped on it, it left a cranberry streak on the floor. I was SO UPSET. Didn't feel anything but got screened anyway. Even my GP in Michigan knew what chagas is, which impressed me.
The bloodwork thankfully came back negative, but it had been less than a month. Hopefully it was accurate.
Nothing to mess around with.
BTW Chagas is implicated in cardiac conditions in pets kept outdoors but not everyone is aware nor knows to screen for it. Big deal in my breed susceptible to dialated cardio myopathy.

This made me smile.

I've been the critter catcher since I was a small child.

I showered with arachnid protection as well today. I made sure to give it its due space and let it be on it's way.

Ugh...you have stink bugs there? They are getting worse here every year. Nasty little f**ckers.

@pepperjones Don't smash them! If you do, they emit their odor and that attracks more of them. Just catch them in a glass and put them outside.

@pepperjones Me either. Except cats. LOL

I've long wondered what preys on those nasty things. Nothing seems to want them. In my area there's an invasive variety. I smash them with abandon.

@pepperjones Depending on type they can be very destructive. While I'm fascinated by a lot of insects this isn't one of them. I've seriously never seen anything going after them.

I'm from Australia. I laugh mockingly at your weak American creepy crawlies! (Places hands on hips and throws back head) Hahahaha!
(I actually live in the UK now, where the nastiest bug is the wasp. Lame.)

@pepperjones Why, yes. I kept a symbiotic carnival of critters in there to defend me at night time.

@pepperjones Though, some ladies just keep tame echidnas...

There's this stuff called cedar cide best yet spray. It's made from West Texas cedar oil. It's safe to be around but kills ticks, mites, and fleas. It also scares spiders and other bugs away. I recommend it highly.

I am pleased that you added the arachnid distinction. My new house is insect/arachnid free thus far.

That's what you think...

@pashaonenine Not literally, of course, but I am not seeing any yet. Usually one sees the occasional web, for example.

At least they're working FOR you. 😉
