I thought i posted this already, but i don't see it. I have this friend - had this friend who was batshit crazy - is batshit crazy. We went to college together and recently reconnected - facebook of course - and she started tagging me in religious stuff. I ignored. It progressed to posting on my wall. Fine. I deleted stuff. Im not begrudging her religion, i just don't want to be identified with it - i know facebook doesn't define me, but i enjoy it. - she started sending private messages with prayers and messages to listen to her pastor who videotapes his performances. - i had to stop it. "[Friend] , i love that you are impassioned about something, but i'm an atheist and its falling on deaf ear. I would rather know what is going on with you instead of communicating through memes." Then she was quiet for a bit. - whatever. I've lost more important people and can't be bothered with this bullshit. Then i received the attached. It starts off by saying, i ran into someone who knows you... I thought perhaps someone we went to school with. ... I told them i admired you... Awh. Admiration is a big thing. ... Share this with 10 people... A fucking chain letter???
There is a belief in the religious circles that when one sells their soul, they become empty. I'm going to reject that notion and scream, every fucking person who makes space in their heart for an almighty is completely devoid of personality and uninteresting. I have more to say on this but i have to work it out in my brain. Fucking vacant shells.

Send her back this picture... My all-time favorite!

That is the way a lot of the religious rolls! It is sad and a pity to boot! And, there are so many now!

I defriended and blocked all Trump followers on Facebook, and that included several cousins, three of my siblings, and most of my white evangelical childhood Haiti MK (missionary kid) friends.

If an acquaintance shows the slightest tendency to proselytize, I immediately distance myself. If someone posts a Christian meme on Facebook, I either unfollow or defriend them.

Let me tell you about the day I was on FB and thought I was in my Atheist Cat group and someone asked for prayers for their sick cat?

It was a very near miss... I looked up before hitting the enter key.

I love my reg. cat group - they donate kitty photos willingly to the Agnostic Insomniacs? However.. the prayer chains!

Oh and I've learned science things too. 😉

This is one of the reasons I unfollow friends on facebook. It hasn't gotten so bad that I've had to unfriend or block over it. Most of the time, they've shared something from a particular (religious) page, and I just block that page. In this case, given the circumstances and receiving such crap in a message, I think I would have to block her.

Haven't blocked her yet. I'm giving her a couple more chances i guess.

@Lillyfield41 Maybe a response like "Umm... you meant to send this to someone else, right? I mean, I'm an atheist, and it sure doesn't describe me at all" or something to that effect?

I get goofy religious stuff from Facebook friends on the timeline and on the Messenger. I am quite outspoken in my lack of belief, so it wasn’t like they don’t know how I feel. But if they can wade through all my Atheist memes on their timeline without unfriend me, I can tolerate their occasional religious memes. By the same token, if it becomes a constant thread or they are filling my inbox with crap like you got, blocking becomes the only option.

Since I JUST came across this article today, am going to share it with you.
"Fake Friends Are Sabatoging Your Success"

I'm still processing parts of it. Interesting points of view though.
Over the last few years have already sort of adopted this "are you trying to get me to fire you?" approach to relationships overall. Keeping in mind of course people's circumstances.
Personally began this after a tutor of my daughter's began acting strangely and have been applying this mindset(AYTTGMTFY) ever since with everyone from relatives to service people like plumbers.

You had me until that last bit. I tend to stay away from every single person statements. I've known many religious people who are interesting and have personality, but I do hate chain letters and the constant barrage of reliogious memes on FB.

i hate speaking in absolutes. i just thought about everyone i personally know who are this hyper-religious and for me, it seems they are devoid of their own personalities. --- except one, but i think i love her, so i'm not sure if she gets a pass from me, or if she is the exception to the rule??? you're 100% correct, it's not every one of them, but it's certainly annoying for me.

@Lillyfield41 I got that you were just in the moment I wasn't judging. I live in SC so everyone I know claims to be Christian, most I don't think believe it. The true believers are hard to be around, I used to be one of them. The fucking constant religious post drive me nucking futs! Lol

I'm sorry your friend turned out to be like that, it seems like you wanted them back in your life.

@Electro68 i still want her back a little. I am struggling with mental illness and maybe its a little selfish in saying i want to understand how she got a handle on her mental illness and coping. We used to hvae a good time together. Maybe i'm trying to get something bck i outgrew? It seems like the important ones in my life were the ones i had in my youth???

@Electro68 and i wasnt thinking you were judging... It just made me take a breath, and think a moment more about my words. I appreciate the prick of introspection.

@Lillyfield41 I appreciate you taking it the way in which is was meant. I felt your frustration because I live it. My best friend from my youth I try to stay in touch with. He lost his way with addiction, I love him still but we are so different. All my old friends are no more, life is strange.

@Lillyfield41 There used to be a comedy routine that went like this:

"I used to be all fucked up on drugs. Then I found the Lord.......

Now, I'm all fucked up on the Lord"

Not sure it exactly fits your situation, but maybe it can make you laugh at the absurdity of it?

@k80b619 that's it exactly!

ugh, double whammy: religionist in full proselyte mode, and a chain mail purveyor too! sad.
