Do you think that Humanity is progressing?
Sometimes it just doesn't feel like it. We seem to recycle the same old stupid shit with each generation. However, having said that, I think in general, we have made small steps towards enlightenment but it is that constant regressing that is so frustrating.
I agree, we had Obama now we have Trump. I can't stand the constant pendulum swing.
In what way? We are great at innovations, but they are often used for military purposes.
I think we were until 2008 and since then at best we’ve been treading water and now we are going into reverse. We just heard yesterday the latest statistics on life expectancy in the U.K. and for the first time ever we are not projected to live longer. The year on year figures have been rising until now...England, no change....Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland gone down slightly. Tory austerity is mainly to blame I think....cutting funding to socially progressive programmes and causing more poverty and hunger(food bank usage on increase). Regression not progression.
No, my favorite mythological creature is the Phoenix, because it represents the need for total Destruction before rebirth. I think the human animal follows the same path. We will never let go of our system of believe and way of life until devastation strikes and we are forced to.
Like @Byrd says, where is it going. Overall though, I think not. The average age of death has leveled out (And that doesn't measure war and major disasters). Statisticians use the median over the mean worldwide. Also, what measured good have our newest developments produced? Mass media and weapons lead the categories. The world has, for centuries, been very good at deciding its direction determined by where science and technology takes them according to the philosophers interpretations.
