In American English 'knock someone up' means make someone pregnant while in British English it means wake someone up. A British woman on holiday stayed in an American hotel and as she went to bed, she called the reception desk and said to the guy there: "Would you please knock me up at 5 in the morning?" He was embarrassed and said : "Sure, mam, it's kind of you."

We looked around and found a sign 'TO LET'; figured the 'I' had fallen off; went in and asked... We learned we weren't in Kansas anymore.

My dad went into a shop in Italy and accidentally asked the woman if he was a Christmas tree ornament ?. He meant to ask if they HAD a Christmas tree ornament.
