"When you ask atheists about why they became atheists (as I do for a living), they often point to eureka moments when they came to realise that religion simply doesn’t make sense."

The Dawk is more cogent:

atheists are just like anyone else. just because you realize there are no gods doesn't mean you have all the answers. look how many atheists can't even spell "atheist"!

Religion and science both originated from the same place, the human mind. Both ideology's like to claim their view of the universe is the correct one, but science has yet to come up with a mathematical equation that explains or predicts either viewpoint. So, in the big scheme of things is any one view more rational than the other?

Science is believe based on evidence, religion is believe without eveidence and often in spite of evidence.
Evolutionary psychology gives a very reasonable explanation of how those viewpoints evolved. So in the big scheme of thing, yes, one view is definitely more rational than the other.

@Dietl I agree that science is more rational from a human perspective. But our understanding of the universe at large is just scratching the surface. What we experience and observe is just the result of electro chemical actions in our brain. My point is there is really no way to difinitley prove either ideology.

@Dhiltong Science is at least three things, none of which may be called an 'ideology.' 1) Science, first and foremost, is a body of knowledge—facts about the universe and the phenomena by which we are surrounded. 2) Secondly, science is a collection of practitioners, theorists and researchers, engaged in the effort to increase our understanding and broaden our knowledge. 3) Finally, science involves a process—the scientific method—which enables scientists from diverse backgrounds and cultures to reproduce, or, as the case may be, falsify the experiments and results.

When comparing (or contrasting) science and religion, the important point to remember is that, when it comes to knowledge, there is an inverse relationship between the two. Over the centuries, as fast as science has acquired knowledge, religion has been forced to retreat, conceding ground to factual understanding demonstrated by science. That now-famous gap filled by religion grows narrower with each scientific discovery. Soon, religion will be left with little ground to claim.

Does this have anything to do with Dawkins? As far as I can see it's just his picture here.
Also I would prefer to see some numbers and links to actual studies instead of articles to back up the (quite weak) arguments.
