We live in the worst of possible worlds.
Origins of the world can be put into at least two categories:

  1. Some type of natural forces created the universe.
  2. God created everything.
Case #1. I this case man lives as a free tinker to explores his world while making a living and increases his knowledge over time and at some point moves from personal and tribal knowledge to science.
Case #2: Scenario 1 - God creates the world and lets his living beings know everything about how it works so man can get a good start and live happy lives. This might be a better case than case #1 because man get a head start by knowing his world instead of having to discover it -and has the creator to help him as time passes.
Case #2: Scenario 2 - God creates the world but does not tell his living beings how it works. Then we are the same level as Case #1. In this scenario God introduces dogma and oppression to hold back his beings from learning about the world they live in and asks them to direct resources to build houses to worship him and pay for people to preach his dogma.
Sure - you could make a further case where God tries to destroy the world he created - which kind of is our situation - it just has a long time horizon in the sun will become a red giant and burn the earth.

How about Case #2: Scenario 3? In this case, the Almighty created the universe and the laws governing it, and moved on to other things, never to be seen or heard from. In this case, the Creator never interacts, never tweaks, never inspires, never punishes. The Creator is the ultimate absentee landlord. This is the case of the Deist, which many of the Founding Fathers accepted, including my avatar. It is essentially Case #1 but with a 'superpower' first cause. And it is no more Panglossian than any of the cases you've described.

Ok. So how does this optimize the situation for God and humans?

@Stig "Situation optimization" is a goal here?

So the best case/scenario might well be Option 2/Scenario 1 - assuming a God exists. The seconds best is Case #1. The worst case is #2/Scenario 2 or worse where earth destruction is imminent.
