I sent this to my Senators today (Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander).
"Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future." - John F. Kennedy
Brett Kavanaugh may be the Republican answer for the Supreme Court but he is not the right answer for the country today, tomorrow or any time. He has a right to be angry about being “attacked,” and his family being attacked. But, his temperament is not that of a Supreme Court Justice. He was wrong to attack Democrats on the committee for asking probative questions. And, he was most certainly wrong when he bared his partiality in attacking Democrats for doing their job, just as Republicans would have done in similar circumstances. In this, he demonstrated his inability to be impartial — impartiality being one of the most important characteristics of a judge and one of utmost importance in a Justice. I’m asking you to do the right thing. Vote against Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
You sir: Are taking the correct approach toward this current situation! However in this day and time I'm afraid your words will fall upon deaf ears, your Senators are not there to represent you or your feelings they are there to sustain their existence and continue to feed off the cash cow!
Well, since doing what I would like to do to them is not legal (choke some sense into them), there is only one other thing I can do and it’s not yet time to vote.
As someone who went through a similar scenario in the past, I know how it feels to have the finger pointed at you (and he may be innocent of what he was accused of) and don't blame Kavanaugh for his reactions, some of the questions the Democrats asked him were most curious. It almost appears as if he was setup. In truth, the liberal progressives just don't want another conservative judge on the SC. Regarding the impartial part, the same could be said of some of the other SC judges too, and the Democrats didn't so much as blink an eye when justice Sotomayor made a comment stating (to a lesser extent here) that latinas could make better choices than white men, which was an obviously hateful remark. The Democrats lost the last time precisely because of the dirt tactics they use, and I will be hoping Kavanaugh gets the nod.
I do too. I never reacted the way he did. Did you? You do realize his initial statements were attacks, not requests to have the matter investigated so his name could be cleared.
Hmmm what dirty tactics? Sotomayer is a sitting Justice. While the remark may be inappropriate, she is not applying for the job. Kavanaugh is. You think Kavanaugh was not inappropriate in his remarks? He was asked if he ever drank to the point of blacking out. Instead of answering, he asked the Senator if she had a drinking problem. He only said he did not have a drinking problem. He never answered the question. His rage at Democratx for being partisan is stupid. That is their job. His rage was over the top. I should also point out that there have been several credible reports of Kavanaugh’s drinking to excess, regularly during his school and college years.
You’re right, liberals don’t want him on the Supreme Court. He should not even be a nominee at this point. Merrick Garland should be sitting on the bench. You do remember why he is not, don’t you? Let me remind you. It was Republicans who used “dirt tactics” by preventing his nomination from even getting into committee. (Oh, yeah, Garland was recommended to Obama by Orrin Hatch, a conservative Republican.)
And, did you remember that Democrats did not do anything to block Breyer, the other justice appointed by Trump? Maybe because his background was clean? In fact, 3-4 Democrats voted for Breyer. No forced outrage or dirty tricks from the Democrats there.
And speaking of dirty tricks. By Republicans, you did notice that Republicans withheld significant portions of Kavanaugh’s work papers and only gave a few days advance time for Democrats to review them. And, oh yeah... how many Republicans announced they would vote for Kavanaugh no matter what Dr Ford would testify to? They did not care if Kavanaugh was “guilty.” Would not surprise me if they would vote for Kavanaugh if he stood up and said “Yes, I did it. But, I was a boy. It shouldn’t count.”
You also realize that Kavanaugh lied on more than one occasion. Right? The first is a little lie. But telling. The drinking age was changed to 21 while Kavanaugh was 17. He said he was legal age when he was 18. He was not. He has made that statement several times. He has yet to correct the record. Keep in mind, too, as mentioned above, his statements about not having a drinking problem are countered by multiple reports to the contrary. And, while not proof, his yearbook entry and his calendar can be viewed as supportive of him partying and drinking, also denied by Kavanaugh. Finally, he says he worked hard to get into Yale, implying that was the only way he could get in. Well, while he may well have worked hard, he was also a Yale legacy. Admission was not really an issue. I would call that an embellishment at a minimum.
Sorry, your arguments don’t sway me. However, I do agree that the Ford letter should have been released in a more timely manner. That is on the Democrats. And, Ford should never have sent it were she not willing to see it through at the time she sent it.
Thanks for the comment and giving me the opportunity to further support my position.
@Rob1948 Only in your mind did you support your position further. I don't blame him one bit for his responses, the Democrats asked some ridiculous questions. Yes, when I went through a similar situation years ago I did go on the offense and had every right to being I was innocent. Frankly, I don't care for either major political party, they both lie, and anyone who identifies with either is part of a larger problem in society. I'm also not brainwashed by the mainstream media sources either, good luck to you sir believing the rather incoherent statements from someone who obviously was too drunk (illegally no less) to remember exact details.
@SpikeTalon insults and disdain don’t go over well. You are entitled to your opinion but not to your insults. If you want to discuss the topics, bring facts to the table.
Here is a fair rundown of what Kavanaugh said. It’s not mainstream media either. [currentaffairs.org]
@Rob1948 What insults? The brainwashed comment was not directed at any particular individual, just a general statement. Both sides of the political debate hurl insults, and I suspect both Kavanaugh and Ford of lying. Kavanaugh was not being truthful about the underage drinking part it appears, and Ford's testimony is incoherent to say the least. I've been following the story, and alot of folks who side with Ford are doing so based on raw emotions. I'm thoroughly convinced a big portion of society is brainwashed, and that includes both major political parties, but alot of people in this world do not like or care for the truth and play the "I'm insulted card". Sometimes we all need to hear that of which we do not want to hear and dread to hear, but it might be for the best. I don't seek to insult anyone.
@Rob1948 Talk about disdain and insults? Roughly 85% of those who would be considered active members on here consistently spread such against views that oppose liberal progressive values, talk about double standards...
@SpikeTalon you may think “in your mind only” is not disdainful and insulting. I do. As for what others do... not my problem. I try to be civil. So, for me, criticizing what I think is insulting is not a double standard. I hold myself to the same standard I hold you. Deal with it.
Thanks for agreeing that Kavanaugh lied.
@Rob1948 I can deal with such just fine, afterall I wasn't the one who got insulted. As for the lying part, most politicians these days do it, and Ford lied as well, so I'm not taking sides there. I acknowledge both sides on that matter lied... a bit more than what you were willing to do. Now, I'm waiting to hear what the FBI comes up with...
@SpikeTalon and, what was Ford’s lie...asking since you are so sure, you must certainly know she lied.
