Has anyone been through an appendectomy? How long did it take to recover and feel 100% better?

Nowadays they do it endoscopically, just poke a few holes in you and pull it out through one of those. My best friend had that done a few years ago and he was back to normal life in a couple days.

Way better than how I ended up having it done in the early 80s. Big ol three inch abdominal incision on a seven-year-old. Took me nearly a month to recover.

I had mine done in the late 80s. Same big scar. For some inexplicable reason that scar seems has gotten a bit bigger over the years. Hmmmm.

LOL

About a week for me. Now a days they don't cut the muscle like they did 30 or so years ago so recovering is pretty quick.

Just got mine out last year. No rupture or peritonitis, but I was allergic to the suture or something they used in there. I felt better almost immediately because the pain was gone. I itched for a month. Got most of my strength back within two to three weeks.

When was the surgery? Any infections? Did it get removed before bursting? I would say 3 weeks to a month before using your abdominal muscles for exertion. Making getting into, and out of a bed or chair almost impossible.

Thanks Mike. They said it was a "hot" Appendix when it came out so I think its going to take some time to bounce back

@nowhereman55 When they burst, the infections can contaminate your abdominal cavity, requiring extensive antibiotics, possibly becoming life threatening. So it may have been a close thing......
