I wonder if the presidential alert caused any car accidents.
I was in a moderately complicated driving maneuver with fast traffic on both sides when it went off. I had to let it beeped till I got to safety and it was annoying. Then it occurred to me that most people driving in the nation were surprised then went digging for their phones all at the same time.
i don't text. i don't read texts. i don't have an alert set for texts. the president can text me every minute of every day and i won't know it.

Yah.. Your phone (assuming you have one) may be from one of the companies that didn't participate. It's not something you can opt out of. You would have known. It was a loud continuously buzzing alarm, not a text.
@MsAl my phone, which is broken at the moment, is capable of texting and receiving texts. it can do it. i just do not. i guess its being broken lets me off the hook. i am miffed about its being broken, by the way. i use it for making and receiving phone calls, and occasionally taking pictures (not selfies). i find that convenient.

No it didn't.
People whose chose to check their phones whilst driving would have caused any accidents that may have happened.
