Scammers! Just a PSA that a common scam I've encountered on POF recently happened here. The scenario is generally that the guy is in the military. His English is usually a little broken and he claims to be from Mexico or some other country but in the US Army. Currently deployed but will to move to you when he gets back in a few months. If you chat with him long enough, some emergency will come and that he needs you to send money.

First time I encountered it here so I thought I'd send out a heads up.

The next time a supposedly Military Man contacts you,ask his rank,Mos,bases his been to,how long he's been in,just simple questions.

Just today, found a nice looking Woman in her 50's on a website called "Charmely",I texted her last night, got a response, back checked phone location, looked good, she texted me, and said she was in Ghana, visiting relatives,so the Red flags went out, and a siren went off, when asked, why Ghana, she stopped texting.

How would this site filter out the legitimate, from the scammers? Photo's can be of anybody,so can stories, the scammers take advantage of the loneliness after a death or divorce takes place, some are long running, getting your confidences, others make no attempt to come right out and ask for gift cards from the get go.

The telemarketing scammer market is currently overfilled. I get around 6 scammers calling me every day. Yesterday, a woman with a very thick Indian accent called and said her name was Leslie. I almost died laughing.

Preying your loneliness, and lack of finding someone, the usual scam,Nigeria, and Ghana are the most recent scam centers, calls and texting are re-routed from what you think are US locations,to those countries.

i've only been approached by one scammer here, not military-claiming and didn't get far enough to ask for money. he asked me to tell him all about myself. i found that odd and annoying, especially since my profile clearly says i am here for the community, when asked what i was up to i said i was cooking dinner for my guy, and that i mentioned after he persisted that i was in a relationship. but the big thing wasn't his ignoring those things. it was the whole idea that someone on social media, where i am active in posting and not shy about what i think and feel, should want me to make a little list for them of what i think and feel. instant friendship, eh? that just doesn't happen. so i told him in no uncertain terms how weird that was, and reiterated that i have a guy -- so he responded by saying he wanted to be my very close friend. that's when let him have it. same scam, different details. the military version is one of many. and yes, his english was broken. he CLAIMED to be from, or at least in, tennessee, which last time i looked was in the united states lol
