One of my co-workers who is a chaplain with the agency I work for approached me to say that her son had informed her that he "no longer believed in god". It appears he has been a "good kid" and active in church. He told mom that he had been researching the topic which led to his decision. My co-worker is aware that I am agnostic. She was very tearful and really believes that he is at some kind of cosmic risk due to his decision. She also asked me if it was just a case of adolescent rebellion. I provided support and encouraged her to not blame herself. I do feel very sad for her. When she first mentioned it my thought was, "good for him". Seeing her pain and grief really brought home home how difficult a situation can be for a family. Any thoughts I can share with her?
