Anyone remember the serials that played every week at the local theater when a quarter got you 1 feature length film, 5 serials, more cartoons than even a kid could handle, a large popcorn and a coke for the Saturday matinee?
No. I grew up in the suburbs that replaced peach orchards 30 miles NE of Philly (in NJ). I played outside a lot, we were not plugged into the TV.
I get to watch those now on youtube.
@silverotter11 -- These serials were at the movie theater. We had no TV at all. Not a single TV in the region.
@evidentialist I checked you're 10 years ahead of me I think the whole movie thing was changing. We had a drive-in that my parents took us to a few times. We did have a TV but the kids time watching was restricked. We did get a movie theater when the shopping center/open mall was built. There was even a bowling alley.
I have not had a TV for 8 years. Since I found this site what other entertainment do I need?
@silverotter11 -- None that I can tell. It is fun, isn't it? Even the weirdos and trolls are ... well ... entertaining.
Nope . We lived in the ,"country." Nothing within walking distance , and the folks didn't have money even at those low prices .
@Cast1es -- We lived 17+ miles from Salem, OR. Part of the business from our farm was to take goods (fryer chickens, eggs, and other stuff that varied depending on the time of the year) into town and that happened fortuitously on Saturday mornings. It took the grownups the better part of 6 hours to conduct all their business, so I wound up as the first one in for the Saturday matinee. Like clockwork, I got my dose of Hopalong Cassidy, Roy Rogers, Rocket Man, Buck Rogers, and the Green Hornet along with an hour or more of cartoons, the newsreel, and a feature length movie (not always even close to new).
@evidentialist Excellent baby sitting costs . These days I'd be afraid to allow a child alone in a theater .
