What is your opinion on infant circumcision?
and
How do people who are completely and rightly against the violent physical abuse of children reconcile their feeling with their insistence that their own children have bits ritually chopped off them?
It’s a very simple surgical operation nowadays. Usually, the doctors don’t inject an anesthetic but use the pain reliever cream. It’s clearly a cultural thing that has nothing to do with the initial meaning – keeping the area clean. I read about this info because my best friend’s baby boy was circumcised recently. I wanted to buy a baby bouncer walker on [newbabycentral.com] as a present, but I changed my mind due to a recent surgical procedure done on the baby.
Had both my boys done as babies. Didn’t think twice. My ex had to be done as an adult and was insistent but we had that conversation early on and were both in favor. I wouldn’t say this is violent physical abuse. It’s a medical procedure that takes less than five minutes.
For what possible purpose?
Would you have had female circumcision done if they were girls?
If not why not?
This is simply elective involuntary surgery done on an infant, how can you possibly justify that?
@LenHazell53, are you aware of the difference between male and female circumcision? It’s a false equivalency.
As an RN that’s seen hundreds of men that cannot maintain thier hygiene and watching my husband enduring surgery in his 40’s, wasn’t difficult.
My boys are very thankful and I have spoken to them about it.
I do not ever need to justify my choices..especially medical ones to an untrained person.
@Green_eyes Of course I am perfectly aware of the difference, and both are obnoxious, both are the deliberate mutation of the genital organs of an infant BY AMPUTATION with no consent is in no way a false equivalency especially in the context of intent.
Circumcision has nothing to do with hygiene, it is a barbaric religious practice designed to lessen or in the case of FGM obliterate the pleasurable side of "Dirty Sex" and make it simply for procreation.
That you chose to cut off a part of your infant child's body for no good reason, make my appreciation of your proxy choices on their behalf and your "Training" pretty low.
However to return to the original post, and doubly so in your case how can you as a medical professional justify unnecessary and elective surgery.
@LenHazell53 so the response is no. By the way, most cardiac procedures are elective.
I have absolutely no problem with my being snipped.
Cropped & docked! ? ??
But was it done to you in infancy without your consent?
@LenHazell53 Sure, like everything else that is done to you as a child. I like the way it looks, and am totally fine with it.
@Sticks48 Good for you, but you must admit you have never had the chance to compare, you simply had a fait accompli dumped on you.
I personally find the idea of infant genital mutilation horrific in men and women.
@LenHazell53 I have seen the pictures and been in the Army. I like mine better.
@Sticks48 fair enough
People who do this to their children obviously don't believe in free will as they deprive it to their children.
