Christian morality is my guess, people believe that diabetes is a disease that is self inflicted by gluttony and sloth which are two of the seven deadly sins so it is god's will that these people be afflicted. Not what I think but there are a lot of weird people out there that do believe this in much the same way that they believe people addicted to hard drugs have weak moral fibre.
