Wishing I could get all the religious hooha out of my head that was burnt there during my childhood and teens. it still bothers me mentally to this day and keeps my mind in a paranoid state of "is there someone really watching everything I do? are my ancestors watching me take a crap from heaven?"
It takes time. Read other stuff -- if you haven't read it, start with Carl Sagan's "Demon-Haunted World". And then do his other books, and Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Jerry Coyne. Your ancestors are NOT watching you. They are decomposing, if they haven't yet finished doing so. In the words of Bill Bryson, their atoms have shuffled off to do other things.
@Dispirited You'll find Sagan to be easy to follow and a real delight. Can't tell you how many copies of DHW I've given away! Enjoy it, and let me know what you think.
@Dispirited The question is whether it helps YOU. I think both versions of Cosmos are awesome -- I own both on DVD for repeat watching. I've never tried to read Jung so can't comment on whether he's easier than the authors I listed. Try Sagan and see what you think. PM me if you'd like to chat.
I came out of a really intense, fanatical church. When I first stopped going I had panic attacks. I had to break ritualistic habits like someone with OCD, like if I didn't say grace would I get sick? It took a long time to reset my mind. Studying other religions helped me un -brainwash myself and figure out what I really believe.
LOL! Well, at least you have imaginary problems instead of real people trying to burn you at the stake for believing in telescopes, etc.
So, at least that.
I just want to be rid if those damn catchy songs!
No one is watching you. , but we are listening, if you want
