Why do I keep hearing that voting conservative is good for your money? Even if you are making 6 figures I just do not believe this is the case. I'm tired of hearing it....
I agree.
But even if it's true, the focus stays on the private income or profit. There is always cost to be born in every undertaking (including profit-making), but the right believes in externalizing the cost, that is, to have the general public bear the cost, not the individuals making the money, at a proportionate level. The industrial pollution is a classic example of the externalization of the cost. You know, the global warming is such a cost. We are all expected to pay for this disaster, so that people like deVos can have multiple $30 million yachts.
Capitalism is a myopic lie.
Because Republicans (so they say) want to cut taxes so you keep more of your paycheck... Also (they say) they give you more favorable tax rates if you own a business or sometimes even investments. The fact is.... It's BS. I will make less this year after the Republicans take their toll. I bring more home... But they erased about $25k of write-offs for me.
I have, at different points in my life, paid more in taxes than most people make. I have never once complained or tried to cheat the IRS... But I do object to the waste of tax dollars.. Some obvious and some cleverly disguised graft.
Not that simple, I think! What form is your wealth in: property, stocks, cash stuffed into your mattress? Different policies can affect you in different ways. Beyond taking care of you own stuff, however, I believe in what Jefferson called “enlightened self-interest.” What’s the point of living in a beautiful castle if you are surrounded by squalor and have to have armed guards protect you? I want my neighbors to have opportunites (education, jobs, etc.) of their own, so I don’t have to watch my back so much. I want a rising tide to lift all of our boats.
Conservatives pull the same crap up here. By going on about the economy and taxes they hide the fact they are ignoring the human rights issues like the lgbt community and abortion.
Most Democrats want to raise taxes. Here is a summary of the new taxes that went into effect to fund Obamacare:
Most Republicans want to cut taxes. Here is a summary of the Trump Tax Cuts:
If you are making 6 figures, it's highly likely that you will pay more taxes under Democrats, and that difference in taxes will not be made up by receiving more services.
Does that explain it?
The Republicans cut taxes knowing the Dems will have to raise taxes to cover the deficits the tax cuts create so they can try to convince folks the only way to fix the deficit is to cut social programs. They are dishonest assholes.
The Democrats create the social programs that are ticking time bombs:
Social Security - Democrats
Medicaid - Democrats
Medicare - Democrats
Obamacare - Democrats
Outrageous Public Employee Pensions - Democrats
When the Republicans point out that these social programs will bankrupt us if they are not modified, they are dishonest heartless assholes. Correct?
@Sticks48 You don't tolerate stupid huh? Where did you place in the National Mathematical Olympiad? I placed 19th. Where did you do your PhD research? I completed a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois. How was your PhD program ranked? Mine was the 4th rated program in the country. How many patents do you have? I have 35. [google.com]
@OwlInASack The GDP per capita for Europe as a whole is 24.9K. The GDP per capita for the USA is 59.5K, so if your definition of "just fine" is 41.8% as wealthy as we are today, I can do without your "just fine". If you look at all 45 countries of Europe, only 5 have a higher GDP per capita than the USA. Here they are: Luxembourg (Tax Haven), Switzerland (Tax Haven), Norway (Huge Oil Reserves for a small country), Ireland (Tax Haven), Iceland (Huge fishing, geothermal, and tourism industries for a country of 400K). Every other country in Europe is poorer than the USA. [en.wikipedia.org]
Where are the well-educated idiots?
@Sticks48 Let's look at what US Engineers have done:
Let's look at what the US Congress has done:
Less than 2% of Congressmen are engineers.
41% of Congressmen are attorneys.
You can draw your own conclusions.
most democrats want to raise taxes... on people who make a shitload of money. that is appropriate. why shouldn't they? the people, on whom they want to raise taxes do not pay their fair share.
you mention not getting services. what services to extremely wealthy people need? they do need some. they need bridges that do not collapse under them, and roads in good repair, and airports that are not an embarrassment. they need schools to educate the people who work for them, even though they themselves may prefer private education. they need healthy, productive people to work for them, not people who are starving, or cannot come to work because they can't afford to have their kids looked after, or who come to work sick because they have no health insurance. they need prisons to hold the most violent criminals, and they need courts to figure out who those are, and living conditions that don't turn people desperate enough to have to steal or die, which means we need better and cheaper housing, and health care, and fair laws that do not send people to prison for being poor, or black. all this BENEFITS the wealthy and is well worth the cost in taxes. so yeah, democrats want to raise taxes on such people... but not the poor, not the middle class. saying they want to raise taxes scares people because it sounds as if they want to raise taxes on everyone. everyone should pay their fair share and democrats want that, yes. don't YOU want that?
oh and all those time bombs you mentioned? they're not time bombs until republicans plant bombs in them. you own a bunch of patents. good for you. do you own compassion? that's worth more than a bunch of patents.

@genessa Let's go back to the original question. It said "Why do I keep hearing that voting conservative is good for your money? Even if you are making 6 figures I just do not believe this is the case. I'm tired of hearing it.." I answered her original question. You are posing an entirely different question "Why shouldn't extremely wealthy people be taxed more?" The answer to that question is "There aren't enough extremely wealthy people to pay for all the things the US Government wants to do. The bulk of tax revenue comes from people making between 100K and 1M" What percentage of someone's income who makes 100K do you believe to be "their fair share". How about someone making 200K, 500K, 1M.
Someone named "Sticks48" believed that my comments proved that I was stupid, and "Sticks48" did not tolerate stupidity. My comments about my PhD, and my 35 patents were a response to "Sticks48", but "Sticks48" either deleted his comments, blocked me, or did some other cowardly act. I don't know if you can see "Sticks48" comments or not.
@OwlInASack no, i cannot. but my statement still stands.

@OwlInASack 'blush!

there are no conservatives anymore. they're all regressives, and profligate, and do not conserve anything. theoretically they are financially conservative but in fact handing out tax breaks to people who barely (or don't) pay any taxes and then saying OOPS, this pushed the deficit up, we'd better take it out of social security and medicare and medicaid is NOT conservative. if you look at the financial records of democrats and republicans in the past half-century you'll see republicans are not financially conservative -- except when it comes to actually spending money on things the general population needs. they're not conservative when it comes to lining their own pockets! as for democrats and big government, the first government hiring freeze i experienced was courtesy jimmy carter (and i wasn't resentful, even though i was a temporary government employee at the time and would have loved for my job to become permanent). so what you keep hearing is dead wrong, as i see you suspected.
