Orwell was no dummy.
45 supporters, on the other hand, probably haven't read the book.
Any book. Maybe some autobiographies by pro wrestlers
I feel like we’re living in a horrible combination of 1984, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Idiocracy.
Yes, I read George Orwell's book, 1984, years ago.
Yep, and the "war on terror" is a forever war that fits the bill nicely.
Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.
Ugh, nope. Still got an 'A' on the test, though. Not proud of that.
I used to do that!!
Read the book, Watched the movie.
Meh, they both had some good points to think about, it also seemed a bit far fetched.
they kind of reminded me of soilent green. same kind of thing.
Not super far fetched if you think about it. Everyone is voluntarily wiretapping their homes, our leaders are redefining words and erasing history, convincing a hell of a lot of people that 2+2=5 and rewarding snitches, we have underground prisons where people are held without trial already etc and war is the main motivation that got everyone to sign away their freedom for paranoia. Pretty spot on.
A lot of people think it was a very close prediction of the means of government control, although what happened in reality is sort of a combo of that dystopia and the one in Brave New World, where the masses voluntarily brainwash themselves with opiates, entertainment, sex etc. Orwell said he wasnt writing about the future, but about what was already beginning to happen.
I would just like to make a comment refuting a statement I just heard. Having been in the service I can honestly state that the military are the ones tat least want any war. After all it is they who then must put their lives on the line.I am sure there are those in the military that speak of going to war with glee but that turns to reality when it happens and for the most part they are either nuts or the biggest cowards when it comes time to fight. Those who present the view that the military wants war has never served.
yes, i read it long ago, reread it in my middle years, and reread it online last year for obvious reasons. here is a link so that anyone who wants to reread it or read it for the first time may do so: [gutenberg.net.au]
