I couldn't agree more. When people thank me for my military service, I ask them if they know any of their city, county, state, or national elected officials. I ask them if they know of any of the bills or legislation before the city, county, and state lawmakers. I ask them how many times they have EVER contacted ANY elected official to voice their ideas about current topic that are important to them. I try not to sound like a jerk, but calling someone out for voting in a popularity contest every two years, then sitting on their ass expecting someone else to think for them and solve their problems isn't showing appreciation for the men and women who have suffered or died for them.
