I'm feeling completely defeated at work. I've been applying to different jobs since summer and have had a couple interviews but so far nothing has panned out.
I live is a smaller city that has a couple colleges. Because of that, there are plenty of waitressing and retail jobs but not many "career" type options. Plus rent is fairly high since most college students have roommates.
Between work and trying to date, I just feel completely "off" from my normal happy self. Plus winter is upon us.
Thanks for listening, just needed to tell someone how I'm feeling.
Sincerely,
Debbie Downer
I am 62 and have a similar problem si I decided to sell my body in the nearest large city. As of last night I still owe $250 to my customers. I may have to try something else.
Searching for.... whatever it is that one is kept searching for tends to be torment, if not torture. Life is about finding, and having, not about searching endlessly. Despite that the thought of caving in and stopping the search, to settle with whatever one chances to get that way, is completely intolerable, so we keep searching for whatever it is that we might be searching for. As the power of governments becomes more godlike the potential for them to manipulate the possibilities of results and the types of results that searching is likely to attain, steadily increases. That is oppression, but it can become totalitarianism, very easily, beyond a certain point. Whether that becomes the abuse of one, of few, or of the many, becomes the question then, but future totalitarianism is sure to be that way.
Hang in there, Ms. Downer! When things aren’t going my way, I comfort myself with elaborate plans for vengeance. Always brings a smile back to my face!
Good idea!! Lol
@Marcie1974 All kidding aside, I know how being in this kind of space can feel, and truly wish you the best! Things change ...
@The-Krzyz thanks, forced myself out of my apartment tonight, always does wonders for me
@Marcie1974 You're not the only one! Challenging ourselves like this can be a good part of our "self-care," I think. Hope it was enjoyable!
@The-Krzyz it was. I think it was the 4th time I’ve done something completely by myself. Out of my comfort zone but it’s good to push myself
@Marcie1974 One possible benefit is you never know who you’ll meet. Maybe someone interested in doing the same things as you, as opposed to just belonging to the same site ... (No offense, A.com!)
@The-Krzyz yes, that’s what I’ve been hoping for as well. After the holidays I’m going to start volunteering. That’ll get me out of my apartment, meeting new people, and doing some good in the community
@Marcie1974 Great! Depending on what’s available in your community, volunteering also can lead to job opportunities on occasion. It worked out that way for me a couple of times. I think you’re heading in a good direction! Wish you the best, and wish you a happy and safe holiday season!
I'm beginning to wonder about being qualified and older. When I was young with less experience and education, I got an interview for every job I applied to and always got the job. Now I have three degrees, I'm older, and I apply to only jobs that I'm very qualified for. I haven't had a call for an interview in years. Is ageism (and possibly against women) a real thing?
It absolutely is a thing. I too managed to get every job that I was interviewed for, when I was younger. Not so much these days. Although I must confess that the last job that I interviewed for I got......my boss and the business owner was a woman, in the same age bracket at myself. ?
I think they can hire young people cheaper
I think so.
While working contracts, I asked why I wasn't being hired full time. I was told exactly that, "I can hire two newly grads for the price of you. You're too high on the pay scale." Mays me wish there was no such thing as pay scales.
Is 44 that old, though? I mean, I suppose it could at least partially explain why my housemate, who's 43, can't even get an interview most of the time ...
Maybe both. People younger than you don't always feel comfortable hiring people with more experience. They can also get younger people for less money. Nice to see you play.
Took me 2 years to get put of my terrible job. Current job is amazing. You'll get there.
