The media’s job is to create the illusion that bad things are happening all around you and that there’s a good chance that bad things will happen to you too. Unless you vote for big government and intrusive laws of course.

In our system of government we are the government. Unfortunately, over 330 million of us many with other cultures, languages, education levels, mental states and on and on how are we supposed to govern ourselves much less deal with the infrastructure. The media often sells what people want to hear so don't blame them. Besides, a lot of things going on right now is bad.

We live on a planet with vast albeit limited resources. We keep adding more and more or us each with an increasing demand for resources. Gee, maybe that's a major reason things are breaking down.

Right now I am watching a PBS program on London and the major problems it is having with flooding. I remember visiting the Thames barrier shortly after it was built. Now it is increasing inadequate to deal with the record breaking rainfalls, sea level rise and the city sinking. This is only one small example of wha is going on on the whole planet today the media notwithstanding.

I disagree
The media's job is to sell advertising and the. People pay attention when the news is bad..
This is completely self inflicted and has very little to do with govt.

@Morganfreeman i get most of my news from the bbc and cbc.. Most media is at least slightly left leaning (nature of the beast etc ), but I think the ones i mentioned above try and report the news without coloring it to much..

really? that's media's job? that's just not true at all. and what exactly is big government? the republicans say democrats are for big government and the democrats generally cut unnecessary government spending and reappropriate it to what governments SHOULD spend on, so even if the number of government agencies or employees is the same, it's not the same thing! meanwhile, some people think laws that make corporations stop polluting our air and water is intrusive, and others thing that laws that make women let men control their bodies is intrusive. guess which i think?
