I switched the television on tonight and caught most of "The Fifth Element" on Syfy. I'll watch that movie pretty much whenever I see it's on. What are some movies you'll stop to watch whenever you run across them when flipping channels?

I cut the cord 12 years ago so we're all streaming all the time. I'll sometimes put a movie on instead of music while I'm cleaning, doing dishes, laundry etc. I'm a sucker for a romcom but I also love a good bloody action movie. "You've Got Mail" (this one in particular), "Love Actually", "Harold and Maude", The Princess Bride", "When Harry met Sally" and "As Good As It Gets" on the Romcom side. "John Wick" and "Deadpool"(I have all the lyrics to "Shoop" memorized because of this movie), the first two Matrix movies but especially the second one, "Tombstone" on the actiony side. "Bad Words" is fucking hilarious. And "Baby Driver" quickly rose through the ranks as it's like a two hour music video with great action and a a killer soundtrack.

My kids used to watch Princess Bride so much they could quote most of the movie. I need to ask them if they can still do that.

Any of the Harry Potter Series and Lord of the Rings! Yeah, I'm one of those geeks. 🙂

The Blues Brothers or The Jerk, no matter how butchered.

Pulp Fiction.

Big Trouble in Little China.

Army of Darkness (any Evil Dead, really).

Bill & Ted (either)

Addams Family/Values

Ghostbusters

Stripes (if they're still in basic training)

Groundhog Day

Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz

Better Off Dead

Anchorman

Mean Girls

(Man, I'm both old and immature.)

Uncle Buck, Blazing Saddles, Sixteen Candles, Princes Bride, Breakfast Club, Cannonball Run, Total Recal, Air Force One, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sound of Music 😉

7

Trading Places, Coming to America, National Lampoon's Vacation, The Matrix, Star Wars, Alien, The Shawshank Redemption, Idiocracy, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Zombieland, Evil Dead 3, Jeepers Creepers, Firefly

Idiocracy, someone had a crystal ball 🙂

@psycheworks I thought it was a documentary in 2006.. Little did i know what was coming...

For some reason I find I'm drawn to stop at any of the Jurassic films when flipping channels.

That's one of my favorite movies, and years ago, back when I had it on DVD, I used to just leave it in the VCR and hit play whenever I sat down. It didn't matter where in the movie it was, since I had it memorized and thought it all was hilarious.

Very Robert A. Heinlein universe!

Ah, Heineken. To this day, Stranger in a Strange Land is still my favorite book

@AuntieMame LOVE it, and recently reread it.
I regularly run through my vast Kindle Robert A. Heinlein collection. If I've recently read them all, there are other writers, inspired by Heinlein, who are just as good, or better, like John Scalzi, and his Old Man's War series. Also, Joe Haldeman. I found these writers by searching for authors "like Heinlein."

Stranger in a Strange Land, seminal work, read it as a teenager, warped my head ever since 🙂

The Usual Suspects. People like us. They both have the most beautiful ending. Kingdom of Heaven and 300: rise of an empire but those two are simply lust for Eva Green. When I need to realign myself every two months... Searching for Sugar Man. But I got them all to my disposition... tv is just for the news. Somebody made me watch "scandal" couple nights ago. tv has turned into pollution to me so is avoided as the flu I guess.

Mine would be Independence Day. Gotta love Will Smith greeting the aliens 🙂

4

Jurassic World
Starship Troopers
Princess Bride
Idiocracy
Godzilla (2015)
Suicide Squad

4

The Big Lebowski (The Dude abides!)
Terminator 2
Alien
Act of Valor
American Sniper
Whiplash
Any episode of Taxi

While its (the Fifth Element) corny on some levels, I find the costumes/set/technology much more original than the usual Hollywood steam pipes and raw steel genre. That blue opera singer is great.

The best movie ever made is Adaptation with Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep.
You have to watch it at least three times to get the full effect.

3

Princess Bride, Mission to Mars,Star Wars(all of them despite Jarjar Bing),Close Encounter of The Third kind, Goodfellas, The sixth sense. The good the Bad and the Ugly, Apocalypto, Heat, Scarface, Blazing Saddles, Remember the Titans, The gods must be crazy.

"The gods must be crazy" is a great film! Never laughed so hard.

The fifth element is one movie I can watch a million times, along blazing saddles

Got Blazing Saddles on DVD last year because they bleeped every other word when it came up on Network TV! Oh "Young Frankenstein!". lol Another awesome flick.

3

NOVA PBS, And Ancient Aliens.

I'm the same with the Fifth Element ... others I'll always watch are Battle of the River Plate, Midway, Zulu ... the Lord of the Rings & Hobbit series ... many of the Akira Kurosawa movies ... the Matrix series ... probably more. I won't actually sit and just watch them but they'll be on while I'm tapping away on my phone, iPad or Pc 🙂

3

Alien(s)/3/4/5

3

That is one of my favorites🙂 I watch as much and maybe more than any other movie. "She's perfect"
right?

3

Watched it here too!
Constantine is a favorite.
Blade.
I imagine I could have quite the list?

Come to think of it, there are certain tv channels that I will not watch no matter what movie they're showing because they seem to use more time showing ads than showing the movie!!" One of these is the Freeform channel. Another is Sci Fi channel. If they're showing something I MUST see I'll record it, rather than wade through their endless, repetitive ads.

Yes. I don't object to moderate commercial breaks, but sometimes it gets ridiculous.

Shawshank Redemption

In that vein, The Green Mile is Always entertaining.. Steven King is the master

I’ve never watched The Green Mile. I read the book and cried horribly. Just couldn’t put myself through that again. @Seanbnbad
