I made the mistake of telling my young son that all of the Indians that fed the stupid settlers in Jamestown were dead within two years from disease and murder. He was a pariah in the third grade.
Now he's 24 and could care less about Thanksgiving although his grandparents will make a spread. I am not married to his mother anymore so I am spared.
The truth is not popular in the third grade.
Truth will stand when the world falls down.
@schway both of my sons were told a lot of historical truths because they were raised by a history & literature geek. I always told them I would answer any questioned they had honestly which led to a lot of uncomfortable, yet age appropriate conversations. Not to mention more than 1 parent principal meeting. 1 involved my oldest for not standing for "a moment of silence" as he considered it school endorsed prayer. I believe there was some shock when I pointed out even kids have 1st amendment rights & my attorney could explain it if need be. another was when my youngest schooled his 12th grade english lit teacher on the importance of Beowulf as the 1st english written story & not a version of samson & delilah & her bringing in bible stories & church bulletins was a violation of church & state. Fun time.
@schway yes, this is what I hope for with my grandkids.
