Life-event for me today. My primary care physician is retiring at the end of December. This guy has been my "doc" for 25+ years. He's seen me through some interesting times. I saw him today for an ear infection. We talked about old times, and what he's going to do next. Exchanged personal e-mail addresses. Shook hands... and went our separate ways. I'm not embarrassed to note that I teared up a bit.

Never saw a primary care physician that many times but rather specialist like my hip surgeon who has replaced both of my arthritic hips with steel ones.

I don't know that I've ever seen any doctor more than 4 times.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was extremely upset when mine retired.

awww...my primary physician was so well loved by so many because he believed in old fashioned, shoot from the hip talk and always gave advice even if you didn't want to hear it...he told me the secret to losing weight when I was much younger and I still laugh and follow his advice to this day...

One of our deli's named a sandwich after him!

There was a huge retirement party for his and so many people attended along with their kids and even grandkids...

Glad you will be keeping in touch with someone who impacted your life...it will mean something for both of you!

He's going to travel as we do. I'm thinking we'll wind up doing a few Road Scholar tours together.

I had this happen with my physician of 20 years last December. While I wished him well, it was hard to think about starting over with a new doctor, especially since I was being subjected to overwhelming upheaval in my personal life at the same time. Sometimes change is just really, really hard.
