I'm often interested in hearing what people aspire to do most, what they seek to achieve before their time runs out. For me, I want to create something, something that will last hundreds of years, and be enjoyed by many people, and even though my name and who i am, as well as my association with said "thing" will be forgotten with time, a part of me is still influencing people's emotions and imaginations. Not necessarily art, but, something. I just need to find what that something is. Doesnt have to be something large, but something that is constant.
You probably have a recipe for disappointment and self-loathing there. Only a very tiny number of people have those kinds of opportunities. But 100% of us have the opportunities we actually get ... to be a good friend, lover, parent, employee or contractor, to pay your taxes and your bills, to put the toilet seat down after you take a whizz, things like that. They count. They are enough.
I respectfully disagree. I do some quality woodworking. If I made a piece of furniture, and it was used, handed down, donated, etc, over and over again, used by many, that is the thing I am referring to. I don't want a park or ball field named after me, but something simple, without my name on it.
@SoullessHeathen Yes I do that as a craftsman also. And it is one of the greatest satisfactions of my life.
I have no need to create something or anything. My meaning in life is to make peoples lives more enjoyable and happier. Sometimes I wear off it and try to open their lives to misconceptions that are going around. So many people only see things in black and white but there are so many shades of those colors.
It's great to have goals, but the journey is more important than reaching the destination. The most important thing is to enjoy the simple things in life.
My goal is to enjoy whatever I'm going at the moment. I don't always do a good job of it, but that's my goal.
I am trying to start keeping honey bees. It is the least I can do for future generations. I might get some sweet returns, but the benefit to earth is my reasoning.
Nice! I just want to have fun. Enjoy what life has to offer in small and moderate doses. Do no harm. And do some good.
