Some say the universe is a simulation. Well what if it were the case that those simulating us were themselves a simulation? And what if it went on forever like this in an infinite regress of simulations, one within the other like a Russian doll? If that were the case, it could never be determined which universe was the ‘real’ one. This I think forces us to deal with the universe we’re in as the one that is real. After all it’s the universe that matters to us the most.
I am having enough trouble with whatever reality I am currently in, but exploration is good...just stay clear of the abyss!
Perception is reality. If you really think about it, it is all a simulation. It doesnt have to be for someones entertainment or control. Not a single thing we do really matters in the grand scheme. A billion years ago & a billion years from now, we were & will be stardust.
Man created god for many reasons, to explain the creation of the universe, to feel significant, to feel connected, to provide reason, etc. Many cultures created their own religion independent from each other because its not the god(s) that are real, but humanity's need to find or create answers. This same logic follows with the simulation theory, there is no supporting evidence yet the theory persists because of humanity, not because of a simulation.
However somewhat in line with the OP, who the fuck cares if it is? This is what I have now, make the most of it.
Yeah the whole Matrix / simulation / brain in a vat thing is not actionable. What is true for us is what we have to engage with, so whether our reality is the bedrock reality is only of use as interesting speculation.
It does seem likely to me that our perception of reality is not that accurate in many ways, but how many steps removed reality is from some atomic baseline Truth isn't very interesting to me as it enters the realm of sheer speculation, the same place where supernatural beings and realms "exist".
