As the Cold War heated up in the 1950s, the United States made decisions on foreign policy with the goal of containing communism. To maintain its hegemony in the Western Hemisphere, the U.S. intervened in Guatemala in 1954 and removed its elected president, Jacobo Arbenz, on the premise that he was soft on communism.

That is one example, what it does not say is the other or real reason Ike ordered the removal of the elected president. Bananas. or more importantly the land they grow them on. The duly elected president was returning the land to the people and the banana companies did not want to lose the land or the strangle hold it had on the workers and the industry.

There were times we were called to help but many times we did more harm meddling where we should not.

I salute for speaking the truth.

How many were requested by the country outlined. I served in the Marines and made three landings at the request of the government we landed at. Most of the time it was to keep an elected president in power.

I am only surprised that the number isn't higher. Imagine if it counted our monetary support of certain groups or U.S. covert actions like the CIA helping to kill Allende.
