One of my bigest frustrations, is not so much theists and their religious bullshit doing what they do, as anoying as that is what pisses me off more... is how 'god' by name is so ingrained in our society. Our money, the pledge of allegiance, people talkin in phrases and quips (omg, my lord, jesus crist) the truly devout may always be faith locked and beyond reach of reason, but the average person and their causal belief with out question. Even knowing and understanding the historical cause of our money and pledge being turned theistic does nothing to quell my frustration.
It doesn’t bother me, but then again, I don’t call myself an atheist.
I feel your pain. Though, I’ve occasionally popped out of a ‘goddamnit’ moment of anger, if becoming additionally upset over the fact those remain my ‘go to’ words, if only subconsciously.. Then I’m mad at Religion - as it should be!
Good points, though, and I appreciate you clarifying the re-gigging of ‘our (unnecessary) pledge’ and the relatively recent graffiti on our money. Though I’ve ways of dealing with those … but again admit, the use of ‘god or j-c’ when needing a good cuss fit is irritating … dogdamnit
What about other religions? Does worshiping Odin, Thor and Freya bothers you? (days of the week)?
Does worshiping roman emperors(gods) in August bothers you?
And we don't even talk about common lexicon based on Roman and Greek gods.
Religion IS part of the culture, it puts marks on it. It WAS important for society organization.
If this bothers you, just stop using.
Of course I would support any candidate that proposes to take any religious reference out of government symbols and documents. But most of symbolism on its roots will end in some ancient religion or cult.
