Well, for me it took me almost ten years. I told them I was gay. That didn't work. You see, when people stop going to the Mormon church they really do their best never to remove names from the church records, because using the names of all the people that left and no longer believe, they can claim the church is still growing.

In my case i was born into a Mormon family. So, I wrote a letter to the church saying that I never really believed, but just went through the motions, mostly to keep peace int he family and generally get along. This may have been strtching the truth a bit as at one point in my teen years i sincerely made an effort to believe, but it just never happened for me. However, If I relayed the effort on my part, they'd just delay longer in my excommunication thinking there was hope for me, so I left that out of my letter.

You might have to edit judiciously kuej U dud un irder tio eave them little choice about it. When I received a ltter sayign I was excommunicated, the thought about framing it along side my baptimal certificate, but I thought it woudl be better to just move on with my life.

Even if you can't claim to be gay, another "unforgivable sin" is adultury. I fyou ever had sex with soemone who was married, but nto to you, then there you go. The only other unforgivable sin left is murder, but unless you actually committed one, you probably would not wnat to confess to it... although you could (falsely) confess to geing gay or to have committed adultery without much fallout.

So, an unforgivable sin, beign gay or an adulterer, along with saying you never really believed but just wanted to fit in and get along shoudl do it. It's been a while, but I think the letter was sent to the local Bishop, or maybe it was the Stake president. That was all mor ethan 20 years ago now.

The letter came about as my parents asked me to write a letter requestign excommunication, because they gave up on my ever repenting of beign gay, and they did nto wna tot have to testify against me in the "church court". (Yes, to those reading this who have never been Mormon, there is really a kind of church court.)

So, I hope this is helpful to you. That is how I did it anyway. BTW, there is a group on here just for ex-Mormons. [agnostic.com] They might have more suggestions there.

thanks for the advice and group

Can you not just quit? Why do you need them to throw you out?

If you just ignored them, they think your still in and they continuously bug you about how you should go to church more, they send missionaries, and they do not stop bugging you, Throwing them out would get them to shut up and not bug you.

I think the term is 'disfellowshipped'. But the only people I ever knew who achieved it were youngsters who were outed as liking sex too much.

Their church believes in Growth at all costs too much to encourage people to escape. It might be funny if it weren't so sad.

All I know is I've broken all their rules and so far they still want me.......
