Saying goodbye to a coworker, and fellow atheist today. He passed on Sunday at the age of 54. Very intelligent man, well versed in theoretical physics, he taught me many things. Holding degrees in both marine biology and chemical engineering, he was always a man willing to learn. My only wish is that I would have learned more from him.
Religion definitely has a monopoly on instant feel good after loss.

Oh gosh I saw this much earlier today and thought I commented - someone must have come into my office and I closed browser. I am sorry for your loss... I am sorry for how young he was..and your tribute is beautiful.

He's gone, but look for other opportunities to learn, which I'm sure you will. That's how he will live on. Condolences.

Sorry for your loss of a valued co-worker. May he live with you in memories and deeds of the past.

Thank you all so very much for the kind words and condolences. I will never forget his smile. Such an amazing and appreciated man. He did more in his short life than many in a long lifetime. Seeing him for the last time was truly difficult. One thing I know for certain, he never took a single minute of his life for granted. He capitalized on every chance he could to have fun, and enjoy time with his wife and dogs. A unique man, with a unique mind.
