When you take honest stock of your life, what are some simple changes you could personally make to let go of tension, pain, heartache and find inner sufficiency and inspiration? What activities make you take a confident stride through life and relax your shoulders? That you think you could easily make a habit of if you can just keep reminding yourself at the right times?
I was thinking about this earlier today and I made a short list of things to remember to do more of for improving my quality of thought and life. These will be my mantras for the upcoming year. I didn't realize I had covered all the main human senses except taste until I was done. So I'll have Dave Chappelle weigh in on that. Also attached is Johnny Cash's to do list.
Handwrite your own list if you like, I think and hope it'll sink in a little better that way. The written word and arts are as close a gift as anyone has to being gods and magically speaking things into permanent creation. Make sure to speak some groovy shit into your own creations. Be the gorilla.
You just described my whole practice as a Buddhist, dude.
Exercise, making music, knitting, yoga/stretching. Oh, and writing. Not doing enough of any of them right now. But, otoh, I am doing them.
Mountain hiking and yoga aren't enough exercise for ya? I'm scared to know what else you do on top of it, you're wearin me out just listenin atchu ? but your mountainscapes are matched by your storytellin abilities, do go on walkin n talkin!
Running, hiking, backpacking, lifting weights, swimming laps, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and snowshoeing: I love it!
I gave up watching the news. I don't take responsibility for what is not mine anymore. I leave my work at work every night. I learned how to say no. I don't take on guilt if it's not mine or I didn't do anything wrong. Learning to do these things has greatly reduced the stress in my life.
