Oregon may require middle, high schoolers undergo annual mental health exams
If it’s required by the state it will probably spin off a few horrible inadvertent trainwrecks, and possibly some intentional abuse, but I do wish it could evolve into a more culturally accepted voluntary norm like six month dental checkups. Surely our mental health is at least as important as our dental health.
I think abuse is my biggest concern. Plus, who is monitoring the quality/professionalism of the therapists? There is a health official at my daughter's school that discriminates against her because she is an atheist. That would not be the type of person I want giving my child a psych evaluation. Of course I don't live in Oregon so it's a nonissue for me, but I still ponder this.

I would worry about that too. Having it enforced through the school system is probably a bad idea, but I'd welcome a cultural shift that favored voluntary (and affordable) routine mental health checkups and appropriate followup. I don't know what private organization might want to fund a series of Public Service Announcements?
We need to require government officials to undergo mental health exams!
Particularly the juvenile in the White House
I should think this is a good idea, but I am really apprehensive about it for some reason. I hope others chime in.
