Hi there from Germany!
Just joined but realized this site is mostly popular in the US or UK..
Alway had great discussions with international peeps but I joined trying to find some atheists closer to home.^^
Futile?!!
Anyway, have a nice Sunday!
Herzlichen wilkommen. There are some (1 for sure) transplants from Deutschland here. I lived in (don't laugh) die Altstadt vom Heidelberg for 15 years. My uncle (recently deceased) was from Nodrhein Westafllen. He was a Panzer Fuhrer in the 2nd world war and fought for 4 years in Russia. He was captured and sent to a Gulag in Siberia for 5 years. He survived, married an American (my aunt) and moved to Dallas Texas. He was a character and he and I got along greatly. I still communicate with a neighbor woman (who lives on Eselspfad) in Heidelberg. I miss it greatly.
@MrOddjob At one time I had 2 neighbors. One fought in N. Afrika under Rommel. He was captured by the British, handed over to the Americans and sent to a camp in Texas. He loved it (was comfortable, lots of food had a paid job and learned democracy). The other fought in France and got captured by the French. Things weren't so good and he was not happy but it could have been worse.
My uncle wrote a book and had one version translated into English. He gave me this book and I donated it to our local library for our special sections room.
Usually, when I mention Heidelberg to Deutscher they roll their eyes. It was difficult learning the language as everyone (almost) spoke English and wanted to practice it.
There used to be a guy called Matthias from Freiburg here, but I havenβt seen any posts from him in a while. You are welcome to join us anyway....!
Hey. Welcome. It appears we do have some other folks from Germany.
