I just spent a week with my daughter. We did some hiking here in Eastern Oregon, ate out, cooked together and for each other, went to the Wildhorse to visit the museum and just had one hell of a good time. I'm not sure why, in my youth, I didn't want kids at all and if I was to have one, wanted a son. My three daughters are the best and I enjoy them immensely!
LiterateHiker I'll bet you have a great relationship with your daughter as well.
To my delight, Claire and I love each other very much. My heart feels warm.
@LiterateHiker You have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Good relationships are built with experiences together and the bonding that takes place while experiencing them.
What a wonderful father-daughter bonding experience. She will always remember it. Congratulations!
Started hiking with my daughter Claire when she was 9 months old.
When she turned five, we were doing frequent, short hikes up to waterfalls and along creeks. Claire carried her jacket and a toy in her little pack.
At 28, Claire loves hiking and camping with her husband.
When my kids were just 7 and 9, I took them backpacking to the Sierras and camping as much as possible. It's a wonderful adventure to share and makes for some good bonding. I grew up in a family that did a lot of camping and hiking in both Idaho and California. Nice that your daughter has carried your love for hiking and camping on to the next generation. Good for you for introducing her to this wonderful way of enjoying the world.
I understand completely. I recently visited my two daughters for the first time in several years. At age 81, I treasure that time with them. I also wanted a son, but got over it in about 48 hours after the birth of my youngest daughter.
Doesn't take long, does it?
