An average Joe crow was sitting in a tree saying hello to me today. I was thinking Carlos Castenada or witches
Crows are often mistaken for their larger cousin, the raven. You can tell them apart by their beak shape and their size difference. Ravens and crows are held in great respect by many Native cultures.
A coyote story that kind of relates. My first job in archaeology was during the time that the Carlos Castenada craze was just taking hold. I was working in the Sonoran desert in central AZ on the Gila River. We were living in tents for nine months. We doing what was known as pedestrian survey. In otherwords, walking the proposed inundation area looking for signs of prehistoric human activity.
Midway through our project I ran into a coyote one day. After eyeing each other from a comfortable distance and after a little while, we each went our way. Many days for the rest of project I would see a coyote following or watching my movements. I always thought it was the same coyote. After awhile he jokingly became my familiar.
