I even like his locking horns with Christopher Hitchens, who he considers a formidable opponent. I had the good fortune to meet Hitchens several times at various skeptics conferences. I agree with him quite a bit but was also concerned about the value of going to war based largely on a fear stoked about Islam's danger to the civilized world. People who hate without a rational outlook towards the dreaded other were more than happy to pile on. I compare it in a sense to thinking that the truth of the beliefs of Native Americans bears any relation whatsoever as far as justifications with regards to the horrible crimes being committed agains them by those out to takeover their territory. That is not to say I share Hedges' views on an all powerful being (though he himself has pretty much fallen away from mainstream xiananity as practiced), but one cannot deny his humanist bona fides. As Malcolm X said, "I am for truth, whoever tells it."
