The bail system in USA is unfair, it favors the rich over the poor and that's for sure, however I wonder what she did to incur $2300 in fines on two tickets? That seems to be more than just speeding or parking tickets.
Wondered the same thing but there are many examples of owing much less than that.
@Veteran229 As the article states there are MANY women living this dilemma and not just the ONE you looked up. I wish this article had given more info on the other women caught in this trap but that failing doesn't invalidate the central point of this post.

It's so sad and frustrating we treat people like this. It costs the nation so much more money than the fine ever was to lock them up, even more if those kids are put into foster care.
People don't care about the political discourse around abusing the rights of criminals because they can brush it off and say they shouldn't have broken the law... Its sick.
I was happy when the Driver Responsibility Fee was lifted here in Michigan. I knew alot of people that got caught up in it after traffic violations. It's like they are to scared to collect taxes from the wealthy any more so they suck it out of the people who can't do anything about it.
