This show fascinates me. I can't figure out how these people eat so much to get so big. At some point after they've gained an extra 30-40 lbs I would think they'd notice and realize they need to cut back on the calories.
How do they keep eating until they're 600, 700, 800 lbs? Who even wants to eat that much?
I don't get why.
Food is an addiction. It stimulates the dopamine( feel good receptors) in our brains. It’s like a best friend.. it’s reliable, always there for you and will never leave you.
As people become super obese there’s co-dependency issues. The caregiver enables The obese person as that makes them feel important. Once the obese person loses weight and becomes self sufficient, these relationships usually do not last. They’re incredibly unhealthy.
You seem well informed on this. Do you work in the field?
@Sgt_Spanky I’m an RN with 25+ years of experience.. not specifically in bariatrics.
I watch that show as well. As a matter of fact it's on TV as I write this. I have a hard time understanding it too, but most of it is psychological problems . Many of the women on the show been sexually molested as children. Many of the other suffer severe depression and are self-medicating through food.
I watch that show on occasion and I find myself getting frustrated with the people on it. So many excuses, whiners, family enablers, psychological disorders, etc.
I can understand why they get up to 600+lbs with all that going on. A few of the episodes I couldn’t watch because I had no sympathy at all for the people. Some I felt sorry for.
I can't understand how they let themselves get that heavy. I get that life is stressful but the excuses they give are often very weak. They complain they're miserable because of their weight while they're eating a pan of brownies. I don't get the thinking.
