One of my favorite things to do when someone complains to me about how rural their town is, is to remind them that there's horse parking at my hospital. And it regularly gets used.
Horses are cool, if people don't have a car but a horse well there ya go
My little town has maybe 1200 people. Counting surrounding areas it might be more than that now. Strangely we have stores and even 2 banks.
The town I live in has multiple stores and 4 banks and a few restaurants but only like 1200. But we have this huge college so technically we have like 1800+
I was used to seeing horses share the road at one time.
Not for a couple decades now though.
My nephews who live near the Amish say the buggies are kind of a pain to share the roads with. I can only imagine.
But I always enjoyed seeing the horses.
My biggest problem with the Amish sharing the road in Pennsylvania was the fact that pet laws didn't apply to them like it did too everyone else. Everyone else had to clean up their pet's poop... Do the Amish not believe in Hefty bags and snow shovels either? Sure it would slow down their commute, but they slow down everyone else's commute, so fair's fair.
@Kafir they should make them use the poop bags like city carriages
The town I work in has an amish settlement which cracks me up because they are not like any amish you see on tv. They all own big businesses and Facebook pages, have electricity and a/c, use the hospital and stores, but they still drive buggies and tractors and ride horses around the city and don't have to pay taxes. Even the amish township has a website.
@LadyAlyxandrea Well there's selective choices around religion!
"Hey we love horses and want tax breaks whaddya think? ".
You may recall that a cowboy in our Rogue Valley Walmart chased a guy on a stolen bicycle and roped him on horseback.
