Party of the Rich: Democrats Hold the 20 Wealthiest Congressional Districts
If Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates moved into my district, we would be the wealthiest district in the U.S. That doesn't mean that everyone in that district is rich, it sure would not mean that I am rich. You need to understand how statistical analysis works. The top 1% owns 90% of the wealth. Most people in those districts are not rich but middle and lower class when it comes to wealth, and they vote Democrat.
You are incorrect. Gates and Bezos have only two households, and both of them moving into your district would not have much effect on the median household wealth in your district. They would have a great effect on the the mean household wealth, but that is not what the article referred to.
They also now hold the highest-educated districts. So they're the party of the smart, right?
I read an article, NYT, I believe, that stated that legislators represented the interests of individuals in the top 20 percent bracket, regardless of party affiliation. Old School Dems used to represent the interests of the working and middle classes. Bernie Sanders, an Independent, is closest to the FDR Democrats my parents used to support, hence his popularity.
Both parties have exclusivity. The only time they agree on something and will work together is to keep third parties off of a ballot.
Both the democrats and the republicans represent the wealthy. The Democrats represent libertine rich people. the Republicans represent philistine rich people. Neither represent the broad majority of ordinary Americans. Though, both parties claim that they do.
