I would suggest starting with perusing job postings in the areas you're interested in. Museums, universities and colleges, private companies, etc. often post available positions. Apply to some that fit your interests and qualifications. I've found most of these positions (Academic, museums, archaeological) tend to be contract based rather than permanent though. My background is in Archaeology. It's a highly multidisciplinary field so a varied knowledge base is an asset. Science, economics, law, history, languages, art, and other subjects can be useful.

I understand totally. I have had several different ‘careers’ from musician to Operations Manager in the corporate world and teacher in Adult Education. To follow any of your chosen disciplines you probably need a degree so you could do online study and take on a full time job as well in something that pays your day to day stuff knowing that it is a part of your ultimate career goal. I now want to work in the Criminal Justice System so I am studying for a degree online in Sociology and Criminology while doing a Sales job to see me through, both of which I enjoy immensely and may continue the sales even after my degree. Sadly some old advice on success was. People who are successful take just one thing that they are good at, and hammer away at it until it goes way beyond boring. It is great to have a wide and lively mind, but success goes to the narrow minded specialists who are willing to push themselves in one direction until they leave everyone else behind.
