Trump ditched the TPP. Now it's going into effect without the US. Eleven countries are in the Trade deal now the United States is the only one of the major nations not in it.
The TPP is lethal. It is only good for local business not for people or countries. A company from another country can sue the government if they try to put into for example environmental laws that would ruin your water or contaminate your earth. Not something you want. And if you think that it will create jobs in your country then think again. All business will go overseas where it is much cheaper to produce those goods.
On the one hand, I was nto really in favor of ht eTPP. On the other hand, Trump pulled out for all the wrong reasons.
My concern was that international trade deals/agreements, like TPP, give corporations a kind of sovereignty, which supersedes our national laws and interests.
Trump is upset that the deck was not stakced to favor U.S. interests more than it did. Not exactly the same thing.
As coporaions are more and more international, they are bedoming moire liek countries uto themselves. We had a situation like this back in the 1700's with the East India Ciompany, which in many ways controlled governments. They were granted a "royal monopoly" by England where they were nto taxed on many goods, but smaller merchants were taxed heavily. As a protest, American revolutionaries dumped non-taxed tea into the Boston Harbor (The Boston Tea Party), and then later wrote the Declaration of Independance, listing along line of crimes against eh American colonists, including "Taxation without representation", because the small merchants were taxed but had no representation, but the un-taxed East India company was represented.
"The corporation" (a nick name of the East india Company) was so hated, that all corporations by law had limited life spans. Until the advent of the railroads, corporations were only formed for specific projects like the buildign of a bridge, and once the project was completed the coporation ws dissolved. By the time the railroads came aobut all persons who had lived through the excesses of the East India company had passed and it was mostly forgotten, and so corporations were once again introduced with unlimited life spans and gradually gained mroe power to this very day.
The U.S. was founded in anti-corporate sentiment. The purpose of the corporation is basically to sheild the owners from legal liabilities, allowing corporations (and the owners) to act without conscience in the pursuit of profits, because the corporation is a separate legal entity from the individual owners who cnnot be held accountable for corporate actions or debts.
