Because they're smart enough to pick a healthy man as opposed to an unhealthy one?

Because they themselves are also intelligent.

If by "longer" they mean death at 42, then sure... it worked for us. ?

Intelligent women can talk a man out of doing something stupid. I did this several times when married:

1. Put my foot down when Terry wanted to continue going to Seahawks football games in Seattle with a man who got drunk at the game each time, and insisted on driving drunk. It was 130 miles one-way, over dangerous, dark, icy, snowy and steep mountain passes in the winter.

2. Terry wanted to file a grievance after the vice-principal called him a 'wetback.' "Even though you are right, you will be seen forever as a troublemaker," I said. "Instead, tell Jerry firmly that calling you a wetback was racist and offensive, and to NEVER talk to you like that again."

That is what Terry did. He thanked me for it later. To our satisfaction, Jerry was ultimately fired.

What matters is the quality of that life.

Because they do what the intelligent woman instructs them to do ????

But seriously I, like @John_Tyrrell can find no research studies supporting this claim.

They can talk us out of making really bad decisions.
