I've been considering trying reiki. Does anyone have any experience with this/suggestions for me?
read this before you spend any money.

Some people respond to it and others don't. You need a talented and empathetic practitioner for it to work. I have found it effective to the point of catharsis. Good luck!
Didn’t do anything at all for me. The cot I was resting on wasn’t terribly comfortable either. So never tried it again. Past life regression I did try tho, made me very distressed. I had to ran out of that one, I got this overwhelming sadness feeling that was very hard to bear. Who knows what THAT was....
First off rub your hands together notice how they get warm well according to an ancient guru that I met down the pub that time said he learnt it from an ancient mystic and that's the bodies energy flow now hover that over someone's body any part and feel the force . ..........rubbing your hands together is not causing friction which as we know causes heat its ancient magical lay lines in your body honest to god it's true the guy I spoke to was like a thousand years old !!!!
Reiki is the real deal for me. It is a great stress reliever. I have had 2 different practitioners, different approaches but same outcome. After all , I know what eye pillows are now
This is really useful to learn.....it's not faith based. Bending a spoon isn't faith based. Reiki teaches you to harness and release your own energy to another....
Which energy, chemical, kinetic, or electrical?
You know spoon bending is a sleight of hand illusion, right? Seriously, I don't think I can accept any form of mysticism as reality without overwhelming evidence. Exceptional claims require exceptional evidence.
Oh and spoon bending?
@Khmm, critical analysis isn't the b all of truth? That's a truly laughable statement. Critical analysis is the only way to logically discern truth from fiction. For anything to be considered fact or truthful it must be verified and critically scrutinized. Otherwise it's just pseudoscience and fairy-tales.
@Jackolope74, we do not know everything. Critical analysis is dependant on our knowledge. It cannot be our only measure.
From research I've seen, it's just another faith-based new age pseudo-medicine.
Agreed. My ex did reiki, it didn't appear to be effective in any physical way. That being said the placebo effect has shown marked improvements in peoples overall health.
Idk. Yoga, massage, cannabis and psilocybin have testable, proven results. I'd like to see some data on it but until I do I won't dismiss it out of hand. There's a lot of "hippie nonsense" that's turning out to be quite effective.
@Blindbird Of those, only cannabis and psilocybin could be tested scientifically in a double-blind study. I'm not familiar with any psilocybin studies, but cannabis has proven useful in several ways and the growing number of states with legal medical marijuana reflects that. Even though it's been proven effective, there are still claims for it that far exceed any proven results.
If it were possible to conduct double-blind studies on yoga and massage, I sincerely doubt that show any more positive results than placebos. I know that's a moot point, but just try to imagine how you could create a placebo for either.
Sorry, but I value actual science and the scientific message. When you start thinking of eastern mysticism as a substitute for real medicine, you're on dangerous ground which could, no matter how well-intentioned, end with a lot of deaths. It could be very similar to cult members letting their children die because they choose prayer over medical treatment.
Also why would practicing yoga or receiving massages prevent someone from obtaining other treatments as well? Seems like a false dichotomy to me.
@JimG [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] yoga studies and results.
[painscience.com] massage seems to have fewer benefits.
@Blindbird the original question didn't reference yoga or massage. My response was aimed more broadly at all "alternative medicine," which honestly isn't how I would have classified yoga, based on mysticism like reiki, accupuncture, acupressure, et al. There's no false dichotomy those parents who've left their children die because they chose prayer over medicine could have taken their kids to the hospital and still prayed for them. In fact, I have yet to see a hospital without a chapel.
